What Shello is

Shello teaches from a curated corpus of textbooks, using an AI tutor. It's an education product, not a professional one: medicine, law, finance, and mental-health advice about your own situation are declined by design, and nothing the tutor says is professional advice — not a diagnosis, not a legal opinion, not financial guidance, not a treatment plan. A subject that touches one of those areas without being about your own situation is still taught in full — a statistics lesson will teach you what expected value is. It's advice directed at your own body, money, or legal position specifically that's declined, every time, with the reason stated.

Your account

One account per person, tied to an email address that's actually yours — that's both how sign-in works and what your learner model is built around. Keep access to your email secure; it's how you get back in.

Acceptable use

Don't abuse the service, attempt to extract other users' data, or run automated scraping against anything behind sign-in. The public corpus is different — it's deliberately built to be read by anyone, without an account, and crawled by search engines; reading it, linking to it, even quoting it is what it's for. What license that public corpus is published under isn't decided yet: [CORPUS LICENSE]. Until it is, treat "openly readable" and "openly licensed for reuse" as two different things.

Your uploads — coming later

Shello will eventually let you upload your own books. When it does: what you upload stays yours. You grant us only the license we need to process it and provide the service to you — nothing broader, and never shared with another account.

Community contributions — coming later

Discussion threads and wiki-style editing of the corpus are planned but not live yet. When contribution opens, contributing will require agreeing to a contributor license agreement — [CLA] — not yet written. Attribution and revision history for accepted contributions are permanent once that ships.

Buying a subscription

Purchases happen on the web, only — never inside the iOS or Android app. The apps read whether you have a subscription; they don't sell one. Subscription pricing, billing cycles, and refunds: [PRICING TERMS] — billing doesn't exist yet; it ships in Phase 1.

Availability and your data's durability

Shello is run best-effort, by a very small team. We don't promise a specific uptime. We do promise your data's durability separately from the service's availability: automated backups, with a restore rehearsed at least once before this leaves the test cohort, and a complete export available to you at any time. If Shello ever goes away, your export doesn't.

Ending your account

You can leave any time. We can end an account for abuse of the service or these terms. Either way, your right to export your data first is honored — ending an account is never a way to cut off your access to what you're owed.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Shello's liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. [LIABILITY LANGUAGE] — the position is set; the exact wording needs a lawyer's pass before it's relied on.

Changes to these terms

If we materially change these terms, we'll tell you before the change takes effect, not after.
