The place you go when you want to actually learn something.
Shello is a tutor that teaches from a real book. It asks before it tells, works from the page in front of you, and keeps an honest record of what you can and can't yet do. The books are free to read. Sign in to be taught.

What makes it different
Grounded in a real book
Every lesson works from a chapter you can read yourself, and cites the passage it drew on as it goes. Where the book is silent, the tutor says so rather than improvising.
ReadAsks before it tells
A lesson opens with a question, not an explanation, and follows your answer with a smaller question when you're stuck. When you'd rather just see the answer, one plain button shows it — no lecture. It's noted, so the record stays honest.
LearnHonest about what you know
If you haven't learned something yet, Shello says so. Everything else — pace, mode, how far you want to go — is yours to set. This is the one place your preference doesn't win, because a record you can trust is the whole point of keeping one.
Check
A lesson, as it actually starts
TutorSuppose you wanted to know the average height of every adult in your country. Measuring all of them isn't realistic. What would you do instead?
Measure some of them, I guess? Like a smaller group, and just use that average. I don't know how you'd pick who, or how many you'd need.
TutorExactly — you wouldn't measure all of them. You'd pick a smaller group and work with that. In statistics, there's a specific word for that smaller group you actually measure. What do you think it's called?
From a test lesson on Chapter 1, Sampling and Data. The tutor's words are its own; the learner in this run was a test learner, not a person.
What's free, and what will cost
Reading is free, forever, for anyone, with no account — the books cost us nothing per reader. The tutor's dialogue costs real money every turn, so the teaching modes will be a subscription later, with a free allowance so you can start without paying. There is nothing to buy today.
Shello does not teach medicine, law, finance or mental health, and it won't advise you on your own health, money or legal position, whatever chapter is open. A statistics lesson will teach you what expected value is; it won't tell you whether to take the bet.
